Top Tips On How To Create A Beautiful Life!

Creating a beautiful life for ourselves is possible. And in order to do that we have to strive for balance and that means addressing all areas of life. I observed that last year I was very much only focused mostly on one area of my life and that was my businesses. I thought that I would use this blog to show you what I have been up to and also how I have got the balance back in my life.

Having just become a representative of Miessence selling certified organic personal care and house hold products meant I needed to pay careful attention to keeping my life balanced.  I have two other small businesses to contend with meant other parts of my life had become unbalanced so this year was about adopting a holistic approach to get that balance back.

I thought that I would write this blog for people who tend to focus only on one part of their life. I thought I would use use my own experience and show you how I have been getting the balance back in my own life to help you do the same. Plus I thought that it would give you an opportunity to see what The Earth Faeries have been up too.

Firstly I looked at my creative area. I realized that while I was making accessories for my customers I rarely had time to make anything else for myself or my loved ones. When mum expressed interest in what I was making I always said I would make her something but never got around to it. Time was always a factor so I read an article about creating more time and doing things that are important to us.

I devised an affirmation that has worked wonders in my life and has done just that. As they say we are living in a quantum field and thoughts become things. And so do the affirmations that we recite every day. The affirmation that I use is: I always have time for the activities, people and experiences that are important to me. And sure enough time has been created and I suddenly have more free time.

And so I got to work on my mums ornament that I have made her. I made it in her favorite colour which is buttermilk yellow. You can find my full range here. It comes with a little hand made scroll too with a personalized poem in it so I am just working on that at the moment. I just hope she likes it. Here is a sneaky preview of the rose I have made for my mum. Each rose is named after its owner and I called this one Barbara Frances after her.

Secondly I decided to start focusing on doing more self development work on myself. I am a qualified and practicing life coach – specializing in spiritual coaching and well being coaching.  I knew working on myself would creating more energy and momentum in my life to facilitate change.

As part of my self development I do earthing while practicing mindfulness in my big garden, forests, and woodlands.  I practice earthing otherwise known as grounding about once a month but now have started to do it every day and am observing a massive difference in my energy levels. So how does it work?  The free electrons in the earth move through our feet and into our body and create well being in our mind body and soul.earthing.jpg

Many have lost their connection with the natural power of earth because Rubber and plastic soles on our shoes. They are not conductors so they prevent the free electrons from the earth moving through our body. So taking the shoes and socks off and walking on the mud, moss, forest floors, beaches, and grass is a great preventative measure. It is also a way to stay well and  increase our well being and energy levels which contributes towards having balanced and a beautiful life

My word this year has been contribution. Giving back! Giving feels so good so I thought I would like to do more of it. I am all for looking after our planet so I decided to volunteer at Garth organic fruit and vegetable garden in Wales. It was the most enjoyable day that I have had in ages and it was lovely to do something different and to help others out too. It is surprising what opportunities you get given when you get out of your comfort zone because I got asked to run a mindfulness work shop there so am making time now to devise my lesson plans and I am due to run them this August!

Earth Faeries doing voluntary work in Garth Organic gardens!
The earth Faeries love getting inspired in nature so I started some voluntary work in an organic gardens!

It was an eventful day. I learned how to grow baby onions. Although I have grown potatoes carrots and lettuces in my own garden I have never grown onions. A lesson learned from there was not to plant them upside down and I suppose metaphorically speaking the same applies to us – so always reach for the light to get you to the places you want to go.

20180419_145938_resized_1.jpg

I also learned how to grow the food in rows and to measure the depth I was planting them in as well as how to space them correctly so they had room to grow. I did this by using rope tied around pieces of wood and put in the ground. The rope once stretched out helps you to plant the crops in a straight line.

20180419_133437_resized_1.jpg

I also got to see some slow worms too which resemble beautiful snakes – as Jude the owner of the organic gardens prized back the soggy straw they sliver deeper down into the earthy layers. They slithered away before I could get my camera out.

I got to meet some other lovely volunteers too and it was nice to share a common goal with them which was looking after the planet that I love so much. Plus I got an abundance of organic vegetable and salad in return for helping out. There is something lovely about eating fresh salad and sprouting broccoli from a garden that you have picked yourself. It tastes so much nicer!

I have just been asked to come canoeing in Llangollen canal with my daughter and while my mind says I have this to do and that to do I stopped, and said to myself I always have time for things, people and events that important to me so I said yes. My other friend has just invited me to London for the vegan and vegetarian food festival and I said yes! So one of the secrets to having a beautiful life I have learned is to say yes to more opportunities.

Getting balance in your life so you can have a beautiful life is not a destination. It is a journey. We are always striving for it as circumstances and goals change so we have to continuously address the balance. And what I have discovered is that with those changes we have to pause, reevaluate what is serving us and what is not so we can modify our goals and then get back in flow.

For me having a beautiful life is about keeping the balance in my own life on a consistent basis. For me keeping that balance means coming up to smell the roses regularly and not being hard on myself when I go off track slightly. It is also about being mindful too – living in the moment, being non judgemental if my mind strays elsewhere and jumping straight back on again.

What other techniques or practices are you using to keep your own life well balanced?

The History of Wire Wrapping

Swarovski bridal hair comb

In today’s blog I am going to look at the history of wire wrapping. You may be wondering how this technique came about so I am going to look at why our ancestors chose to use this technique and why I use it to decorate my bridal hair combs.

For those of you who don’t know what wire wrapping jewellery is it is the art of bending, twisting, cutting and wrapping wire around hair combs and gems. It is also used to hold beads and gems on the wire without soldering, electricity, machinery or the use of modern technologies.

Here is one of the hair combs I wire wrapped

Wire wrapping dates back 1446 BC but there is evidence that it was used much earlier than that. Researchers have found wire jewellery in pyramids and in pharaohs tombs. Ancient ancestors used it because there was no electricity, machinery fire or modern day technologies then.

Early wire used for wire work was pounded flat into sheets and then rolled into thin tubes. It was thought that gold sheet were used as this could be hammered into thin sheets in which the wire would then be made of.

I started to learn this craft last year so I could wrap my hair combs. It looked great fun to learn and had me up many nights practicing. I am also using wire work to make tree of life table decorations which I will reveal to you soon. I like to use this art as I feel it is more Eco friendly as it requires no soldering, electricity, glues or any other modern technologies. I like the idea that I am leaving less of a carbon foot print.  Just like our ancient civilizations knew, it lasts the test of time and is a beautiful skill and has fascinating history to pass onto future generations.

2 top tips for achieving your goals in 2018!

Happy holidays everyone. I hope that you have all had a lovely seasonal time. In this blog I am going to tell you what I have been up to over the festive season and have a look at some of the high lights over the year. Plus I thought I’d tell you some of my new plans for next year as well as give you some tips on how to build up momentum and confidence to go forward with your goals.

The snow had come and gone by Christmas. If you have been following my blogs you will have known that I have been building snowmen, sledging in the garden and country lanes.

2017-12-11 21.35.53

This was taken before Christmas.

I was hoping that it would grace us with its presence for Christmas but it didn’t. However it has started to snow again today so am wondering whether I will have a thick blanket of snow on the ground when I get up.

I had my mum, daughter and her partner here for Christmas who made it really special for me. My daughters’ partner dressed the table and the Christmas tree.  On Christmas day we sat around the tree and opened our beautiful gifts. Watching faces smile in delight at the gifts they had received brought a smile to my own face. Christmas isn’t just for children. It is there to keep the inner child alive in all of us.

That’s one of our dogs presents in the green stocking!

I think it’s not about the material things, although they were beautiful presents, but it was about the sharing of good times and the memories we all created together. Plus it is all the little things that everyone did like bringing the logs in and lighting a lovely fire that made it all warm and cosy. Plus  dressing the table so it looked warm and welcoming for everyone. My daughter and her partner spent hours in the kitchen preparing and  cooking a gorgeous feast for us all. And I had fun photographing it all. However this was the only picture that turned out!

20171225_152431_resized

My daughter and her partner preparing food for us all.

Our cupboards were full to the brim with food but I don’t think we ate in excess however it was nice to have such a wonderful choice of food in. We always have an abundance of food to eat but I am not used to opening my cupboards and having the food fall out.

My mum bought us a gorgeous home made yule log that was suitable for vegans. The lovely lady who made it even delivered it right to our door with a smile. Can you imagine when I opened the big box to discover this beauty. And yes it tasted as divine as it looked.

20171223_103328-1_resized.jpg

There is something wonderful about buying hand made produce. I think it tastes so much better because you can feel the love and time that has gone into such craft man-ship. Like the Japanese I am very much a believer in the energy/essence of a person that goes into our cooking or the products that we buy. This is why the Japanese say it is so important to have good thoughts and be happy when we are creating things. It is something that I adhere too when I cook and when I craft too.

After sharing lots of good times with my loved ones I spent boxing day on my own. I wanted to do some photography and it is a solitary hobby after-all. And as one person pointed out to me, you are never alone when you have the universe with you. I am a true believer that the universe not only lives inside of us all but also in the landscapes, in the elements, the animals, the trees, vegetation and in all that lives on this planet so I happen to agree with that person.

So whilst the rest of them went to another family members house for lunch on boxing day I headed out with my camera (part of a 7 day black and white challenge I am on).   As I sat in the forests, splashed  through the streams and finally came to stand on the moors I felt more closely connected to nature and the universe than ever before. I was grateful for it all for keeping me company.

As I surveyed the landscape before me I was in awe. There were thousands of hectares of heather all over the moorlands and dramatic hills that my lens just about captured. The blue sky had wisps of clouds and their was the odd bird that swooped down before taking flight again. Rock pools were all frozen and there was a light scattering of snow here and there that looked like icing sugar.

One can never feel lonely in such an environment of such beauty where the universe is present in all of it. And as I listened all I could hear was the sound of silence. And I thought to myself that really is the key to feeling connected to oneself and all that there is. For it is in those moments that we have our biggest insights and our higher selves can get through!

Earth faeries have wanderlust again!
Hundreds or acres of heather stretched before me. All I could hear was the sound of silence. Sheer bliss.

20171226_130647-1_resized(1).jpg

And then on my way back I sat in my favorite forest eating my pack lunch.

my pack lunch.jpg

I saw a crow descend into the densely packed forest and maneuver around the trees. Birds really are the true pilots of our skies and it added to the beautiful experience I was having. He was too quick for me so by the time  I had grabbed my camera he had gone. Oh well, maybe next time…

Watching the light in the sky begin to change I realized that it was time to head back home. I never look at my watch when I am out but have learned how to tell the time from the position of the sun and also from the light. I was back before dark, reminiscing about my adventures and already planning more of them.

Today I decided to write my blog about my experiences but also to look at some of the high lights of 2017 and my new intentions for 2018. Here they are. I think it’s so important to review the progress we have made. It really does give you momentum and the confidence to go forward in 2018.

  • I had two super earth faeries characters designed and made for me by a wonderful artist. These are now featured in my Earth Faeries stories on my website if you’d like to follow their adventures.
  • I re-branded and made my products all suitable for vegans as I became one myself this year.
  • I sourced out new suppliers who stock materials that our suitable for vegans. They took quite a while to find but I got there in the end.
  • I stopped making jewellery and decided to create hair accessories instead as I found that is where my passion lies. It is okay to modify your goals as long as you can explain to yourself why.
  • I learned a new jewellery making skill (wire work) and started making a new product line.
  • I started practicing gi gong again. It is Movement meditation that has really helped me connect and keep my inner balance. It so easy to work yourself in the ground if one doesn’t maintain the balance of work and play.
  • I opened two new online shops and a face book business page.
  • I got lots more new wonderful followers on my groups and made some lovely friends on there too.
  • I got lots of glowing reviews from satisfied customers and repeat orders. It is nice to know that people are liking what I am making and makes it all so worth while.
  • I attended two craft stalls. One of them was in a fabulous location outside of a castle. And I even had my dream come true which was to go canoeing around the moat. You can imagine my delight when I was about to set up my stall and I discovered that one of the attractions was canoeing.

20170828_102317_resized

  • With over an hour and half before the customers were due into the grounds I knew I had time to go canooing for the very first time. My friend who also had a stall came with me (she had no choice as I literally grabbed her hand and pulled her in the direction of them.  We had much fun once we managed to get out of the reeds.

20170828_101812-1_resized

  • I did some traveling to Lincolnshire with a good friend and attended a wonderful weekend at a laughter festival. I even got to play drums in the woods, have an Akashic record reading done for me and participated in heaps of other fun activities there too.

20170610_194618_resized

Me at the laughter festival in June

  • It snowed right before Christmas and I had another dream come true. I went sledging in my garden. You could hear my screams of joy from many fields down.
  • I received £3,800 which enabled me to shop to my hearts delight, go for weekend away and invest some of it back into my business.
  • I got a camera given to me that I haven’t used yet as have to send off for a new lead. This will help me improve the quality of my product pictures and also help me with my new hobby which is photographing the landscapes and wild life.
  • I devoured many books on photography to improve my photography skills and realized I now have a passion for it. So I am out most days photographing the vast terrain in this stunning place I live in. I never stop being grateful for where I live.
  • I was nominated by a friend to do a black and white photography challenge for 7 days. And I have been out hiking in the Lovely Welsh countryside taking them and enjoying the sound of silence in the wilderness. I waited about 15 minutes for this photograph. Finally he turned his head and I was able to photograph this handsome fellow.

2017-12-24 13.44.06-1.jpg

  • I discovered a great photographer who was recommended to me. I am sending my products too him in 2018 to have them all professionally photographed.
  • I had my new product range measured for me so I now know the exact sizes of the boxes I require.  Many a night I sat there wondering what colour boxes would fit in with my theme. I had a good response from my FB group who gave me lots of ideas. I am thinking white! They are a very helpful bunch.
  • I made two new friends and got to go walking with them and I also got to spend a lovely weekend away with a very close friend.

And in 2018 I have lots more plans for the Earth Faeries and my own personal goals. Here are some of them.

  • I am getting my third earth faerie character drawn up for me.
  • I have some new craft stalls already planned.
  • A holiday with a friend to Norway. We have decided to go Kayaking in the Norwegian fjords and do some wild camping. Yes I will be sure to post the pictures!
  • Booking another laughter festival but this time it is being held closer to home in Wales.
  • Learn another new jewellery making skill.
  • Have professional pictures done of my products
  • Get some new business cards printed up
  • Order and send off for my new packaging
  • Have more micro and micro adventures where I live.
  • Advance my photography skills of landscapes so I can share them with you on my pages and blogs.
  • Go out for more hikes and do some wild camping.
  • Treat myself to a spa experience, indulge all my senses and go kayaking in the nearby lake.
  • Buy a new bicycle and start cycling again.
  • Explore other beautiful rural parts in UK.
  • Have my products reviewed.
  • Share more good times having adventures with my friends.

What It Means To Me To Be A Sustainable Business.

Daisy hair comb

In this blog I’m going to talk about why I decided to rebrand and become a cruelty free business. But also to tell you about why a rebrand can take so long and why it is  not an overnight solution.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. And this metaphor can be applied to everything in life. Indeed it applies to my own business. I started out making authentic pearl jewellery, and for ethical reasons decided to make my entire range cruelty free to reflect myself and my brand. That meant my brand going vegan and myself!  This meant a total rebrand of my business which is still a work in progress.

It is surprising how many people I have spoken to who told me that they make sure that they source out cruelty free clothes and house hold items etc but have never considered that this applies to jewellery. And this applied to me too.   My research left me stunned and I thought  that I would use my blog to educate others.

It hasn’t been an easy task sourcing out cruelty free supplies as I have had to source out new manufacturers and new materials. Some of them replied promptly whilst others never replied so the search went on to find good quality materials that were ethically sourced and cruelty free.

Lots of the professional pictures I had taken when I first started out making my jewellery had the old products featured in them i.e pearls so were no longer suitable. ( I will tell you more about why later). The hardest part was taking the pictures of my jewellery off my blog and website as hours of work, creativity and love had gone into the wedding shoots that had brought together a photographer, event organizer, hair stylish, make up artist, bouquet maker, a model and obviously myself who had designed the jewellery.

I will admit I was a little disheartened at having to go back to basics, new materials,  new suppliers and new photographs. It seemed such a big task but well worth it because it’s important for my business to reflect my ethics.  To make the whole process easier I broke the goal down into small components and began tackling each one. I had to source out animal free glues, animal free clay’s, and faux pearls. I soon discovered and to my surprise that even faux pearls weren’t all cruelty free. All faux means is fake so beware of this when your shopping for your jewellery.

It was a costly mistake I made as after ordering some beautiful faux pearls in a vast array of colours I began to question how they had got the beautiful colours of their faux pearls. It was a good question and sent me on a quest to enlighten myself.

I soon learned some faux pearls have animal by products in. It was big learning curve! Thankfully I hadn’t sold any as I was just in the middle of making the new product line with them. I contacted the supplier and she told me that she wasn’t too sure what the colours were made of but would contact the manufactures. That supplier never replied back to me so those faux pearls ended up in my draw never to be used. However I learned a lot from this experience and it helped me improve my customer service by making sure I always kept in touch with my customers each step of the way.

Exactly the same applied to my ribbons.  I had to go and find suppliers who didn’t use any animals or by products in their ribbons. I was always taught good business practice is knowing what your products are made of. It was surprising to find that so many businesses had no idea whether their products were vegan or not. And I was astounded to realize that I had been one of those people. I just presumed that Faux pearls meaning fake pearls had no animal by products in.

Some times I’d make progress and other times I was hitting brick walls.   I was surrounded by so many good people who told me to keep going, it would work out for the best. And it did because I managed to find all of my new suppliers so I could begin making my hair accessories again. I eventually chose Swarovski pearl beads which the company assured me were cruelty free and sent me an information pack over of how they are made and what they are made of. It was a good start and so I started making my products again.

However with no professional pictures and no professional photographer to help me this time round to put together the photo shoot and style it etc I had to learn photography skills as soon as possible and fast. I had so many great people around me giving me tips and I enrolled on some online courses, read everything in sight and just kept practicing. It is surprising what you can do when you are passionate about something and determined to learn.

I experimented with flat lays, different backgrounds, props, and through trial and error learned what looked great and what didn’t. It is all still a work in progress and I’m no David Bailey but I finally have some pretty decent picture of my products to put onto my shop now.  I used hair dressing dolls to photograph my products on and my daughter has kindly let me photograph the hair accessories in her hair.  Where there is a will there is always a way I have always said.

I was asked why I had decided to make my hair accessory range vegan. Up until my re brand I was a vegetarian and had been for about 8 years. I had become vegetarian purely for ethical reasons.  A friend of mine sent a video over of what they do to the mollusks in order to get the pearls.  See it here. I think that was a life changing moment for me and so the re-brand of my business began.

Several weeks after watching another video of what is happening in the dairy & poultry industry I finally became a vegan. I knew that I couldn’t make jewellery and claim that I was making something magical when living creatures had suffered to make others feels beautiful. Was there anything magical about that? I couldn’t see anything magical at all.

It is surprising how we can wear things without even questioning what they are made of or what the process is to get that product. I had loved pearls for as long as I can remember, having no idea what happened to the mollusks to get them. Did you realize that they actually place irritants into the mollusks to create the pearl. This causes the mollusk great distress and the pearl is the result of the protective barrier that the mollusks makes.  My love affair ended with pearls when I realized this and I could no longer glamorize or justify  wearing lumps of  materials that were basically a result of an irritant. And yes it is true that this does happen naturally in the sea to them when a grain of sand gets inside of their shells. But mother nature always knows best and does not mass produce. Whereas the mollusk farms do. I don’t think I’d like an irritant stuck in me on a continuous basis. Find out more here

Here are some of the new product lines that I have made. I have just had them measured so I can send away for some boxes for them. They don’t fit into standard boxes so I am having to have them made to measure. I am just in the process on deciding on the colours of the boxes so it fits in with my branding. My logo is aqua so I am thinking about going with that colour. Although I am drawn towards white too so I’m going to take time out to think on this.

These are made out of clay, the finest Swarovski crystals and Swarovski pearls which are all 100% vegan. Just got to cut the ribbon off the hair comb and then ready to go!

So what have I learned from rebranding? Be patient, trust the process of life to work for you and know why you are doing it. Plus think of all of the questions that you need to ask your prospective suppliers before hand to save making costly mistakes like I did.

Do you have any rebranding tips to share with me? Please share in the comments section below.

Discover 3 New Jewellery Products The Earth Faeries Are Working On

In today’s blog I’m going to be giving you an over view of what I have been up to in the last week and sharing some fun moments that have been memorable to me. Plus also to show you 3 new products I am currently working on.

Firstly I have been getting ready for my craft stall in August 28th in Whittington Shropshire. I thought that it would be a good idea to order a hairdressing dolls head to showcase my hair jewellery on. Plus I thought it would be a good idea to use it to photograph some pictures of my jewellery accessories for my online shop which I’m almost due to open. I know that it has been a while coming but I have been researching all of the online shops out there in order to choose the one that is right for me. Although you can find my products to buy on here too. Please click for more information.

I ordered some hair combs which I’m planning on decorating for brides. This is one of the new products I am working on at the moment.

Another project I am working on

I received my order Friday for beautiful glass beads in the most softest pastel shades ever and they are excellent quality. They look very realistic and have a very high luster but they are faux ones so are cruelty free. I was so excited to receive them as I have some wonderful designs that I want to bring into fruition.

A new product I have been working on

I have also been getting creative for myself and making these daisy hair slides. The yellow middle has been customized to make the green yellow effect and the leaves have been lined with a pen knife to give the petal a more realistic look. They are still a work in progress as I want to thin the petals a little more so I have just ordered a pasta maker in order to do this. and then I will add them to my shop on here.  It has been nice to have some free time to make some hair slides for myself too.

Yesterday was a lovely day. A customer came to my house to collect a customized order for three hair rose slides and she kindly let me photograph them in her hair which was fun. The lighting was perfect for the photographs and I’m very appreciative of her for letting me use these pictures. They are hand sculptured rose slides and the colors have been customized. You can find them here

It was also nice to see my customer playing with my materials. I gave her some vegan silk clay and some porcelain clay which is also cruelty free to get creative with and also so she could learn more about the materials I work with. Silk clay (named because of the way it feels) is soft and very malleable and really easy to work with with. As porcelain clay is much more solid and requires a lot of kneading before it is ready to be used to make anything. The latter is very sticky when you first take it out of the packet and it takes about 10 minutes to knead it before it is ready to use but it can create beautiful jewellery and ornaments too to name but a few of its uses. The smile of pleasure on my customers face told me that she was enjoying getting creative and playing with them

Afterwards we went for for a lovely walk in the lovely countryside which is on my doorstep. It was only supposed to be a short walk but it turned into over a two hour one. But it was a lovely end to the day and created many happy memories.

Have you made anything lately? It doesn’t have to be jewellery.  If so please leave a comment of what you have made in the comment section below. And name one of your most enjoyable products that you have made.

The Earth Faerie Tales – Chapter 5

The rooms in the castle Mondevar were dim with only several golden strands of light partly illuminating the room she was in. Queen Veladera also known as the Gothic faerie was lay on her chaise lounge studying the statues that stood before her. She had had the statues for over a decade but unlike other statues they never aged. She stood up and strode over to them both and ran her purple talons over the roughness of the models features. Oh how she wished things had never come to be like this!

A tear fell down her pale cheek and her almost black eyes glistened in the dimness. She didn’t care much about the male statue but the female one she had once deeply loved. She had been her beloved sister. The most powerful of all of the faeries and known as the blue faerie. It had been a name that had stuck with her since birth as unlike the other fairies her skin and wings had been blue.

It had been said that every thousand years a blue faerie was born and that she would bring peace back to the people of faerie land. And the anomaly had been born into her family she thought, sighing.  She was lightness and all that was good. The protector of the animals, the oceans, the seas and all that was living. She monitored the actions of the humans in the other realm to ensure that they kept the balance of mother nature and when some of them didn’t she would sprinkle magic dust onto the good ones to help rekindle their own powers. Some times she would cross the veil between worlds and enter human land and whisper into humans ears to remind them of the power they had inside of them that they had forgotten centuries ago.  In her own world she had kept the peace between the goblins and pixies and other fellow faeries and she had been loved by many.

The prophecy had foretold that a blue faerie would come and create peacefulness in all of the dimensions, lifting the veil of faerie land so once again humanity could live side by side with the faerie folk. A lot of people in her land had not wanted that to happen and the Gothic faerie had been one of those people. And together they had conspired behind her sisters back.  And whilst the blue faerie had been sleeping with her lover, a human by the name of Jack who had willingly been turned into her own kind, she had flew into her bedroom and had cast a spell onto them both turning them into faux crystals. And now there she stood in the middle of her room a constant reminder of what had transpired.

With a sigh she stood up and strode out into the castles long dark hall ways. She passed Prince Dereamie on her way out and he held out his arms to her calling sweet words of love into her ear. She pushed him away for she had grown tired of his empty words and he stood looking at with brown puppy dog eyes that were pleading her to love him.   People who had had love spells put on them were no fun to be around she suddenly decided her face with a sudden sad expression on it as she continued marching down the hall.

Moving into the far end room which she referred to as the red room as the furnishings and fixtures were in every shade of red she looked through the windows at the land around her. There was a stillness as all the faeries who had dwelled near her home had been turned to stone. The birds and other animals who sensed her darkness had left for pastures new. And all that remained was her in a castle that had become more of a prison.

Out of the corner of her eye she seen a white glow and turned quickly to see her crystal ball glowing. Curiously she went over to it and peered into the clear orb that was so powerful it looked liked a humans television screen. Her eyes narrowed as she watched a very familiar figure materialize through the vortex and land in the middle of an open buttercup field. She could recognize that red hair and green eyes anywhere. It was Ruby Starlight the faerie who had come to her to ask her if she could make her human. Of course she had agreed but with one condition that she would never return to faerie land. She wondered how on earth she had got back into faerie form. Her eyes narrowed into slits as she wondered if she had returned for the ruby she had traded in for her new life in the human dimension. Her long talons curled around the red gemstone around her neck. It had been a fair trade and there was no way she was going to give it back for anything.

She knew Ruby very well. They were similar ages and had attended faerie school together. A very popular faerie unlike herself who had been shunned by others. She had never forgot how her and two other faeries by the names of Crystal Moonwand and Onyx had laughed at her when she had been trying to train her pet.  Each faerie child was bestowed a pet crystal or gem to train to work with them for the greater good of faerie kind and hers which was a yellow diamond had proved one of the most difficult to train.

That memory had stayed with her for ever and it was one of the reasons she disliked the woman who was stood in the field with an eagle perched on her hand. The screen of the ball darkened and then began to glow again as it began to refocus on another faerie, Princess Onyx who was stood before the counsel who were surrounded by everything that she hated; Christmas spirit. The normally dark old underground chamber where the counsel dwelled had been decorated for the first time in a century. No wonder Onxy looked shocked as rumor had it that Christmas spirit had left the councel members a long time ago. But what was more shocking was the other faeries words.

“As you know the Gothic faerie has taken over the north of faerie land. Many of the faeries have been turned to stone and the ones that haven’t she has put them under a spell to do her bidding. She has plans to conquer the whole of faerie land and something must be done to to stop her.”

The counsel members exchanged glances

“We are aware of this Princess Onyx.”

“Oh, you are?” she said looking taken back. “I see. So what do you plan to do to stop her?”

The orb became dark again and she slammed her hand down on the desk before shoving it in a black satchel and slinging it over her head.

“Fools the lots of them” she shouted “How dare they try to conspire against me after she had allowed them to continue with their outdated rules that no longer fitted in with modern society.”

“Time to put a stop to them.” she said he eyes narrowed into slits “and to Princess Onyx.”

Grabbing her cloak that had been flung on the back of the chair she draped it around her and then gently pulled her bat like wings through the slits. Opening the castles window she surveyed the darkening of the landscape as dusk was creeping in. Then leaping into the air her huge black wings propelling her upwards and forwards over the land and though the forest. The only sound was the vibration of her wings and her own cackling laughter as she maneuvered around the trees.

All was still in the castle apart from a creaking sound as one of the crystal statues began to crack. One eye popped open and began to focus on the room she was in.  The Blue Faerie was awake again and as the crystal began to crack over her chest, for the first time in a decade she took her first breath.

Chapter six coming soon.

4 tips On How To Make Life Style Changes

How To Make Life Style Changes

In this blog I’m going to show you some of the big life style changes I have been making over the past year plus give you a fantastic recipe with incredible food that your going to love.  I changed my career from writing and tarot reading to making jewellery and accessories. This was a big step for me but one of the best decisions of my life as I’m in love what I do which is getting creative and getting paid for what I enjoy doing is a bonus.

My top 4 tips for making any kind of changes in life is take baby steps, keep a record of your progress to build confidence and give yourself plenty of pat on backs. If you are making changes in your business then keep your customers informed and assure them that they are still going to get fantastic customer service, great products but even better products and services. If you are making life style changes for your wedding then why not team up with another bride and motivate and encourage each other each step of the way!

The second step was to re-brand my jewellery and accessory business which was a major step for me. I had to source out new  suppliers whilst others informed me that their products were vegan so that was a huge relief as I had already invested lots of money into my materials. I had already wrote some of Earth Faeries tales which you can find on here on my website and then discovered one of the characters names no longer fitted in with my branding.

It was many months of wondering how to get round this until I had an aha moment. I changed the characters name and several other minor details and now can go forward again. So I’m sorry to all of my followers who have been reading the stories and waiting for the next chapter – I am in the middle of writing it now. Here’s one of my Earth faeries characters being drawn up. Her name is Onyx and she is the keeper of yes you guessed it – all onyx stones. She is almost ready to be painted. My designer sent her through today so it was a happy start to the day.

The third change for me was to go from being a vegetarian to a vegan. I changed my branding first of all and made all of my products vegan and then my life style just followed suit.

Becoming vegan was something I had always wanted to do for ethical reasons however I have a sweet tooth and didn’t know how on earth I’d get round that. And has it been easy to do? You bet it has! I have been vegan about three weeks and I am wondering why I didn’t do it sooner as my dairy free vegan food and desserts that I have been making is scrumptious and I was amazed at how much variety there is if you love cooking. I’m left wondering how on earth I never knew how many scrumptious alternative foods are out there.

I must admit I have a sweet tooth and I didn’t know how I would cope with quitting chocolate. Enter Deliciously Ella the cook book that changed my life plus lots of great recipes that my daughter has been trying on me. And I haven’t looked back. My daughter has also become vegan which is good because we are getting to bounce ideas for new recipes off each other.  I’d like to share this one with you that my daughter made me.  It is a dairy free chocolate mouse made out of cacao and avocado’s plus lots of other awesome ingredients that are good for the body. You can’t taste the avocado’s and trust me you will be coming back for seconds. But don’t take my word for it, why not try it for yourself.

6 Tips On Finding Your Muse

The Earth faeries garden

In this blog I am celebrating British Flower week and I’m going to give you some tips on how to find your muse!

I adore flowers in their natural settings i.e growing in the ground or on bushes like my roses. I always ask people to buy me pot plants rather than flowers as once cut they don’t last that long. Flowers are alive just like me and you and hence why I  chose to make artificial ones out of vegan silk clay (named because of the feel of the texture of the clay) like the ones I have made below.

This week is British flower week so I thought I would celebrate it by showing you some of the flowers in my garden. These often surround me when I am getting creative. There is something magical about sitting next to a rose tree and having its fragrance tantalize my nostrils. Plus I am always studying other flowers so I can learn how to make them artificially. My flowers and garden are my muse.

This is part of my garden where I happily create surrounded by my muse: flowers, fresh air and wild life.

Here are 6 tips to get your muse.

  • Look around your environment for things that inspire you. It could be a garden, flowers even someone else’s creative projects.
  • Try doodling or drawing.
  • Write, let the words flow. Just writing can help generate creative thoughts.
  • Read lots of different stories for example of people getting married and look at the pictures of their themes. This can really ignite your imagination.
  • Go out in nature. She is one big muse.
  • Visit shops that sell all of your items you need for your wedding day or other special occasion etc. With all of those vibrant colors, beautiful designs, and  interesting contrasts you will soon emerge full of ideas.

What is your muse?

5 tips To Gain Inspiration For Your Wedding Theme Or Creative Projects

In today’s blog I’m going to show you some tips for gaining inspiration. Feeling inspired is not just necessary for creating inventory but also for designing your wedding themes or building your business to name but a few.  In fact everything that you can see around you from the chairs you sit on, to the house you live in, the food you cook, the forms of transport you choose and the architecture you admire started off from someone being inspired.

People often ask me where I get my inspiration from and I often reply nature but there are so many different places and things that you can spark your imagination from. So I decided to do something different and go out with a friend to UK’s largest craft and haberdashery in North Wales called Abakhan. Crafters, dress makers, brides sit up and take notice as this is like an Aladdin’s cave that is well worth a visit.

My friend is a crafter so she was like a child in a doll shop, mesmerized with the different colours and different types of textures. I must admit I was impressed and we both loved being surrounded by such a vast array of gorgeous colours.  If you are a tactile person then you will love this place.

Whilst my friend was looking at the materials I gravitated towards the end of the shop where I spotted beautiful tiaras, head dresses and even a bridal gown. You can guess who was trying them on can’t you.

A sparkly tiara that would make any bride feel like a princess

Beautiful hats for special occasions.

A good selection of veils

Next was the home interior section that offered a made to measure service. My friend went straight in but I was finding inspiration everywhere. Even from the doors so I stopped outside to take a picture.  I was imagining it much smaller and on one of my trees in my garden. And faerie doors are going to be some of my future project’s so I was paying attention to detail.

The grand entrance to the home interior section

Inside was a welcoming sight with beautiful furniture, fixture and fittings. The colours blended seamlessly together and I admired the person who had put in so many hours of creative thought into making it so appealing.

Inside there was a room full of sewing machines, all modern apart from the old singer in the corner of the room. A beautiful dress adorned in butterflies stood proudly in the other corner. I wondered how long it took the creator to make something like this.

A beautiful work of art – a dress adorned in butterflies.

And in between visiting all of the craft shops that were all several feet apart from each other I was being inspired by the water features and even the plaque that told of the history of the place.

It also has a beautiful section for craft lovers too with ink pads, embossing tools, paper, polymer clays, jewellery findings and everything you need to get lost in hours of creative fun. This section was housed in a beautiful log cabin surrounded by trees making it look very picturesque and inviting. Needless to say this was the section I spent most of the time time in.

It also has a restaurant there with a good selection of vegetarian meals and a beautiful gift shop next door.  After an abundance of food – food portions were very generous – we continued on our shopping day out for a couple more hours.

I left there feeling truly inspired and with a huge smile on my face and so did my friend with her huge bags of materials. It’s a place I will be definitely returning again soon to.

I thought that I would give you some tips on how to find your inspiration:

  1. Do something different. If you normally look on the internet for pictures look in another place i.e the countryside, a craft stall or shop.
  2. Carry a camera with you. I only use my Samsung camera phone and I take pictures everywhere I go to save having to rely on memory.
  3. Take a walk in nature. All of the fresh air delivers more oxygen to the brain cells meaning more thinking power and thus more ideas.
  4. Try to be more tactile and feel your environment, objects etc. Feeling them helps to create vivid images in mind and create strong associations which will help you recall memories easier and spark ideas.
  5. See through the eyes of a child. Go out with your fun head on as I call it.
  6. Ask yourself questions when you see things that inspire you. For example what can I make from this. What color would contrast well with it? What can I do differently? How can I make it better? These type of questions facilitate your thought processes and before you know it you’ll have an idea for a great project or theme.

I’m always interested in learning how my readers find their inspiration so please let me know in the comments box where you get yours.

Lots of love

Melanie
